Marketplace Guide
The PocketDex Marketplace connects collectors, traders, and dealers in one place. Here's everything you need to know to buy, sell, and trade safely.
1. How the Marketplace Works
Important — No Payment Processing
PocketDex Marketplace is a free classifieds platform — similar to Kijiji or Craigslist, but for trading cards. PocketDex does NOT process payments, hold funds, or act as a party to any transaction. Buyers and sellers connect through PocketDex and complete transactions independently. You are responsible for verifying items, agreeing on payment, and arranging meetups or shipping.
2. Creating a Listing
- One-tap from your collection: tap any card in your Portfolio → 'List for Sale' → set your price → Publish.
- Or create from scratch: Marketplace tab → '+' → search for the card by name or number.
- Add up to 6 photos — listings with photos receive significantly more buyer interest.
- Set the card's condition and add any notes about its specific state (scratches, off-centering, etc.).
3. Pricing Options
Fixed Price
Set a specific asking price. Buyers can purchase immediately at that price.
Make Offer
Buyers send you an offer. You can accept, reject, or counter with a different price.
Both
Set a listing price but also accept offers below it. Gives you maximum flexibility.
4. For Trade Listings
Want to trade rather than sell? Toggle "For Trade" when creating a listing.
- Specify what you're looking for in trade — you can be specific (card name + set) or leave it open.
- Interested traders will message you directly to propose a swap.
- You can list a card as both for sale and for trade simultaneously.
5. WTB (Want to Buy) Posts
Looking for a specific card? Post a WTB and let the community come to you.
- Marketplace tab → 'WTB' → search for the card you're after.
- Set your target price and preferred condition.
- Sellers who have the card can respond directly to your WTB post.
- WTB posts expire after 30 days but can be renewed.
6. Safety Tips for Meetups
Stay safe when meeting in person
- Meet in a public place — coffee shops, shopping malls, and community centres are ideal.
- Bring a friend if you're trading high-value cards.
- Inspect cards carefully before completing the trade — check condition under good light.
- Never send payment before receiving and verifying the item.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it's okay to walk away.
- Consider meeting at a Local Game Store (LGS) where staff can witness and attest to the trade.
7. Transaction Confirmation
- After completing a trade or sale, mark it as 'Completed' in the chat thread.
- Both parties receive a prompt to leave a rating.
- Confirmed transactions count toward your seller stats and contribute to your trust score.
Always confirm completed transactions — it builds your trading reputation and unlocks Trust Badges over time.
8. Rating System
- Rate sellers and buyers on a 1–5 star scale after each completed transaction.
- Leave a short note — a few words go a long way in building community trust.
- Ratings are public and visible on every user's profile.
- Your average rating and total transaction count are prominently displayed on your profile.
9. Trust Badges
Trusted Trader
10+ completed transactions with a 4.5+ star average
Power Seller
50+ completed transactions with a 4.7+ star average
Elite Trader
100+ completed transactions with a 4.8+ star average
Badges appear on your profile page and alongside your marketplace listings.
10. Reporting a Listing
- Tap the '...' menu on any listing → 'Report'.
- Select a reason: counterfeit item, misrepresented condition, scam attempt, inappropriate content, or other.
- Add any additional notes to help the moderation team investigate.
- Reports are reviewed within 24–48 hours. Serious violations may result in immediate listing removal.
